Thoughts Outside My Head

Hello! And welcome to my goofy, temperamental blog!

You’re probably wondering what the heck is going on over here, and the only answer I have for you is that the server where my artwork and headings are housed is experiencing a little temper tantrum …. er, I mean, technical difficulties.

Please remain in your seats.

Take a deep, cleansing breath.

Say it with me now:

It’ll all work out in the end. It doesn’t matter if the headings are missing. It doesn’t matter if the blogroll has wandered off. It doesn’t matter if the cute snapshot of Indigo, the one with the flowers in her wild hair, isn’t in the upper right hand corner. Let’s close our eyes, and click our heels three times….. there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home, there’s no reason things are missing from this blog, there’s no reason to panic, it’ll look fine in the morning….. IT BETTER FREAKIN’ LOOK FINE IN THE MORNING!!!!

Whoops, I think a little panic might have escaped our zen there.

So, please excuse the goofed-up stuff and let’s get on with the show!!!!!

Tag, Five things from childhood

I was tagged by better safe than sorry and A True Jersey Girl with this earlier in the week. Both are great bloggers. Jersey is having the same snafu at her blog right now that I am ….. so she might need a cheer up.

The meme: What 5 Things do you miss about your childhood?

The rules to this meme game: Remove the blog at #1 from the following list and bump every one up one place; add your blog’s name in the #5 spot; link to each of the other blogs for the desired cross pollination effect. Don’t forget to leave a comment for them! Hi, nice to meet you, great blog, etc….. Indigo sent me, say hello!

Five things I miss about my childhood

1. Not having to get up at 5 a.m. I totally miss sleeping in!!!!

2. Getting an allowance, from my dad. Now I get a paycheck from my dad, but I liked the allowance better.

3. Riding my bike up to the custard (that’s soft serve ice cream here) stand in the middle of the day just because I had nothing better to do, and could find enough change laying around my house.

4. Spending all day swimming in the pool.

5. Going to summer camp.

Creepy. Scary. Heart-skipped-a-beat.

Do you like scary movies? I love scary movies! Except for when I’m watching them, scared out of my mind, then I wonder why I love scary movies so much.

I think it’s the adrenaline rush that I get from being scared? Or maybe it’s the cuddle-factor? I love to cuddle up with my husband while watching a movie.

Years ago we rented Scream, and within 10 minutes I was curled up on the sofa with him, and the two dogs. After the movie we had to walk the dogs. In the dark. On a summer night. He tried to get me to walk them, I tried to get him to walk them. Finally, we walked them together. Every little noise made us jump. It was breezy, so even the rustling of the leaves was enough to get our hearts racing. Every shadow became a dark cloaked figure. We learned our lesson, no more watching scary movies at night, in the dark.

When we rented The Others, we watched it during the day.

All the lights were on.

All the blinds were open.

And I think we played music in the background.

It was still pretty scary. I didn’t see that ending coming. Did you?

There have been plenty of scary movies since then, the last was The Grudge. We saw this in the movie theater. Hello!? What in the heck are you thinking??? This was clearly a dumb idea. Have you seen this movie? There is a scene where Sarah Michelle Gellar is in the shower, and a hand comes out of the back of her head, which she touches while washing her hair. THAT was creepy! Can you even imagine??? Here you are, alone in the shower, relaxing, washing your hair, probably even singing a little tune, right? And all of a sudden there is a hand behind you! That would totally freak me out.

And it did.

One day I was in the shower, alone, relaxing, washing my hair, not singing a tune because I can’t carry one. I was standing under the showerhead, facing the back of the tub, with the water spraying down onto the crown of my head. My hands are washing the suds out of my hair, when all of a sudden I feel something behind me. I barely grazed it, but I touched it enough to know that it wasn’t my other hand, nor the wall, and the showerhead was above me about 6″. I jumped out of my skin, and might have even let out a shriek! As I snapped my head around, looking for the guilty Grudge hand I saw not a hand, but the other showerhead!

Oy! The other showerhead. Yep. I picked the damn thing out, and paid extra to have it installed when the bathroom was remodeled. It’s adjustable, sliding up and down on a vertical bar so that shorter people (like kids) can use the shower. Or I can shower without getting my hair wet. And it comes off the bar all together so you can rinse the shampoo off a kids head who wants to take a bath instead.

Whoever used showerhead #2 last (that would be me) didn’t swing it in towards the wall, so it was sticking out and the rest is history. Creepy. Scary. My-heart-skipped-a-beat. History.

What about you? Anything creepy, scary, your-heart-skipped-a-beat, ever happen to you?

Slang

Lately, my daughter is having a problem with slang. For instance, I went to the YMCA to work out, and there wasn’t a lot of peope there. Hubby asked how the Y was, and I replied: “The Y was dead.” And Zoe, shocked out of her mind, questioned me, “The Y is dead??” Hmmmm, no, not dead, just not busy.

Then yesterday we were all in the car, and they had their windows open. I asked: “Guys, could you roll your windows up please?” Zoe said to me, “Mom, I’m a girl.” And of course I know she’s a girl, she’s my daughter. “But you just called me a guy, and I’m not a guy, I’m a girl.” Yeah, well there’s that slang thing again……

Is that like a dance off?

The funniest thing I heard all weekend was yesterday, as I was eating lunch at Panera with Hubby and Zoe. Hubby asked, “What is this Battle of the Blogs? Is that like a dance off or something?”

What a laugh! Yes, we here in blogland have dance off competitions on a daily basis. Any takers? I have an iPod now, so I’ve been practicing…..

Music library

In downloading all my music into iTunes, and then into my iPod, I’ve discovered a few things.

Beatles music. I have a heck of a lot of it. I love the Beatles, even though they are way before my time. Have you seen the movie I Am Sam? The soundtrack is awesome, it’s all Beatles songs performed by other artists.

Dave Matthews Band. Okay, who doesn’t like DMB? He’s got a great sound to him, and a great beat. The thing is, I didn’t know I had this many of his CDs.

John Cougar Mellencamp. I knew I had a lot of his music. He’s one of my favorites — but I prefer the older stuff to the newer stuff. My favorite is The Best That I Could Do 1976-1988.

Longest song: You Won’t Be Mine, Matchbox Twenty. 9:52.

Shortest song: Feel It, Black Eyed Peas. 17 seconds. I’m not sure if I’ve heard this song.

Projected most listened to: You Had Me, Joss Stone
Let’s Get It Started, Black Eyed Peas
Mr. Brightside, The Killers
Dance & Shout, Shaggy (hot hot song!)

They are on my Da Do Run Playlist, you know, for when I run. Great beats!

Coolest songs so far: 1985, Bowling For Soup. If you went to high school in the 80’s you’d totally love this song!

AM Radio, Everclear. I loved this song the first time I heard it. I don’t think it was ever on the radio though.

Goofiest title: Rockafeller Skank, Fatboy Slim. Great song though.

What’s on your playlist?

Hi ho silver!

I am now the proud owner of a brand new iPod mini. I picked it up tonight on the way home from work. It’s so cute! Sadly, I only have one song so far on it, the free song of the week. I’ll work on importing tomorrow.

I got the silver one. I figured if I got pink, then Hubby wouldn’t use it, and he’ll probably want to use it now and then. I let Zoe pick the color, and this is how it went:

Z: PINK!

Me: No, not pink, otherwise Daddy won’t use it. You can pick green, silver or blue.

Z: SILVER!

Me: How about green or blue?

Z: But you said I could pick ‘green, silver or blue’ and I pick silver.

Damn, she’s pretty smart for only being 4 years old! She’s always so literal, and she’s so exact too. The kid will be a lawyer someday, trust me.

So we got silver. I installed the software in my computer, downloaded the free song, and then walked away from the desk for about five minutes. Hubby sat down, and started pressing buttons, and next thing I know, my iPod is in a foreign language. UNRECOGNIZABLE foreign language!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! It was so unrecognizable I couldn’t even figure out what their word for ‘language’ was. Thank goodness for the reset factory settings option. And thank goodness it was in English so I could read it.
