Whistling and balloons
I cannot whistle to save my life. However my almost 5 yr old daughter taught herself how to whistle this weekend. Can you believe it??? This is how smart she is, while we were in the car she asked Hubby, “Daddy, what do you do with your tongue while you whistle?”
Huh? Good question! And let me be the first to say that it was a question I’ve never thought to ask.
He told her to press it up against the back of her teeth, and the next thing I know, she’s whistling like a sweet little bird.
I, on the other hand, still cannot whistle.
Oh, and this is soooooo adorable that I have to share. Her Grampy, my grandfather, as most of you know is up in Heaven. Zoe occassionally will get a balloon and send it up to him. On Saturday we went out to dinner, and afterwards they gave her a balloon. She quickly asked if she could have two, and they handed her another one. Immediately she turned to me and said, “I’m going to give this one to Grampy.” Isn’t that sweet?
We walked out of the restaurant she let it go, and we watched it float up, up, up into the sky. The people on the sidewalk felt just awful because they thought she lost one of her balloons, and we had to explain that she meant to do it. We all walked to the car with tears streaming down our cheeks.
Boring stuff
‘Monday Monday, la la, la la la’
I can’t decide, am I a Monday person or not? The weekend is over, but then again it seems to be the least hectic morning of the week for me. I can’t explain it.
Of course, once 4:30 p.m. come, the time starts tick, tick, ticking and I’m racing around like a mad woman for the rest of the week …. ballet and gymnastics classes for Zoe, Mardi Gras for all of us at her school, three nights of running for me that should total 18.5 miles, Survivor, The Amazing Race, 24, Lost …… Saturday seems sooooooooooo far away!!
I bought new running shoes yesterday. They are my very first pair of Asics (Gel-Fortitude). I haven’t run on them yet, but I think they’ll be okay. I usually buy Nikes, so this is something different for me.
Here’s a Netflix movie review for Into the Blue: pretty darn good! I’d watch it again. Paul Walker is such a hottie, and that smile? It makes my knees all wobbly….
I see Netflix is shipping Walk The Line to me today, so I’ll have a review of that in a few days.
Total miles: 14.75
That’s my total mileage for the week. Monday I ran speedwork (4×400) for 3.5 miles. Wednesday I ran a tempo run for 5.0 miles. Today I just finished 6.25 miles of a long ass boring slow run.
Okay, so I did watch two episodes of Lost while I ran, but still, it was boring. I had to run at 30 seconds slower than my normal pace, so there I was, dragging along at 5.8 mph. Yawn. Oh. So. Boring.
And yes, it really is 11:28 p.m.
I got my hair cut and colored tonight. I absolutely adore my hair stylist, Nick (not his real name of course). He’s awesome! We were talking about things we did to get into nightclubs, or just buy alcohol when we were underage. My plan involved flirting with all the bouncers and making sure they knew my name. Once they knew my name, there is no way in hell they’d ask for my ID! His plan involved ordering a fake ID out of Rolling Stone magazine. I laughed my ass off when he told me how it came in the mail and was gigantic! Like 3×5″. He couldn’t even fit it in his wallet and had to carry it in his coat pocket. Can you imagine??? LOL! (and why didn’t I know that I could order a fake ID out of Rolling Stone????)
What did you do to get served as a minor?
Running program, Disney & Netflix
Thanks for all the great feedback from yesterday’s post. It’s really nice to have so many wonderful parents tell me that they’ve been there, done that. I really appreciate it your comments!
What’s up with me? Glad you asked.
I’ve been inspired to try a new running program. It’s in this month’s issue of Runner’s World, and it called Your Better Half. It’s works out to a 3 day a week training program building up to run a half marathon (that’s 13.1 miles). I’m not entirely sure I want to run the half marathon yet, but I’ll gladly do the program in order to become a better runner. This week I ran speedwork on Monday for 3.5 miles, then last night I did a tempo run for 3 miles (with a 1 mile warm-up and a 1 mile cool-down so altogether it was 5 miles), and on Saturday I’ll run 6 miles at a slower pace. As I rolled out of bed this morning I could feel the run still in my glutes and quads, maybe tonight I’ll do a little yoga to stretch them out.
I finally made all our dinner reservations for Disney in May. Here’s what we’ve chosen:
Oh, and if anyone is following along, my ebay sales have climbed to over $1000! ![]()
Punched
Today at school Zoe punched another little girl in the stomach. Of course we are disappointed in her, but behind closed doors Hubby can’t help but give a little cheer because this child is a bully and has been picking on Zoe for a few months now. What do you do in a situation like this?
Zoe talks about this girl, let’s call her Jane, all the time. All I hear about it how mean Jane is to her, and how she’s getting the other kids to be mean to her, and there was one day when she didn’t want to wear her winter coat because ‘Jane says I look fat in it’. What the hell?? Since when does a five year old have to worry about looking fat in a coat??? And do I really want my daughter to start worrying about how she looks at this young of an age???
We tell her to ignore Jane, and to tell the teachers when she’s not being nice. And then one day, Hubby got so mad that he actually said, ‘Punch her in the nose when she’s being mean to you, then she’ll leave you alone.’ Well, guess what ….. um, yeah, today she punched her in the stomach. But I don’t think she remembers that Hub gave her that advice, or at least it wasn’t part of her defense when we talked to her.
So Zoe was talked to, and told that she couldn’t hit people, etc…. but when Zoe’s not in the room, Hubby’s thinking that Jane had it coming and it’s about time Zoe put her in her place. I’m torn, part of me is disappointed in my child, and the other part is thinking ‘her daddy told her to punch her in the nose …..’
Movies
This weekend we saw three movies. The first was Zathura. I totally called the ending mid-way through the movie. Totally. It was a pretty good movie too, by the way. Better than I had expected.
Then we watched Flight Plan, the one where Jodie Foster loses her daughter on an overseas flight. Very good actually. And again, I called who the bad guy was about 10 minutes before he was revealed.
Today we went to see Eight Below. I absolutely loved it! I love my dogs, and I cried and cried throughout this movie. For the record, there is no way in hell that I’d ever leave my dogs unattended on the continent of Antartica for one day, let alone 185 days! NEVER!!! And I’m not saying that the dog guy wanted to leave his dogs, he didn’t, and he spent 185 days trying to get back to them….. Anyhow, it’s a great movie! Watch out for the sea leopard though, holy cow, he scared the crap out of Zoe!!!
How was your weekend?
Good ideas for naming the ipod. Hubby suggested Godzilla, and I’m tossing around Izod.
