Advice that I did not ask for
Nothing burns me more than when someone gives me unsolicited advice, and then it’s not even advice at all. They are calling it ‘advice’, but it’s not. And I know it’s not, and they know it’s not, but then there is all this backpeddling and such to try to turn the ‘non-advice’ into ‘advice’.
How would you feel if one of your readers came to your site on a semi-regular basis, enough that you knew their name and enjoyed their comments, but you’d never really visited their blog due to the fact that you are uber busy juggling a family, grad school, work, a non-blog life, a husband who might be downsized at his job, a vacation where you have to fly and you have to promise your afraid-to-fly-husband that he will live to touch the ground, nursing your 12 year old dog back to good health, a death in the family, everything going wrong that could go wrong with patio doors and a simple fix of a furnace, Zoe being on the swim team and having practice right after work twice a week, a finance instructor that mucked up your grade, and getting sick with bronchitis. AND, guess what, SURPRISE! Your student loan is due in eight days, you have eight days notice and you need to be creative to pay it because you thought you had an another year of deferrment. So, all of a sudden you receive a Google Alert in your in-box that provides a link to a blog that posted a link to your blog. And there it is, an entire post written about your blog and how it could improve. IMPROVE!
Yeah, that’s about how I reacted too.
What I want to know is where does this guy get off writing an entire post about how my blog needs improvement?
Oh, I dunno, perhaps emailing me privately and offering that you have a few suggestions, and then politely asking, would you be interested in them? That may have worked better.
I would be rather upset too. I agree with your other readers…if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Goodness gracious, when it rains, it pours. I’m sorry all this Hektik nonsense popped up. I know you put a lot of effort into TMA and I like it just the way it is.

the thing about blogs, is that yours is yours and his is his, so if he wants to devote an entire blog about how you can improve your blog, so what? i seriously don’t think he meant any harm, it has confirmed from the comments left on your site that everyone likes what you’re doing, and you have expressed you’ve been offended, which i understand and i think he might understand, although he’s so pretentious, maybe not.
i’ve been visiting your site for years and i adore you and it.
take a deep breath, go to your family for financial help if you need to and vent, but don’t lose any sleep over unsolicited advice from someone you can’t even think of anything original to post on his own blog.
My reaction would be (and was) pissed off…with a reaction of…”If you don’t like my blog then don’t read it!”. If someone has a problem with my blog they should email me in private about it NOT announce it to the whole world.
It is YOUR Blog hun and I like it the way it is! I think you do a damn good job!

Tendrilss last blog post..A Painful Reflection
I’ve had to scrub out what I’ve written here twice because
a) it was too full of swear words and
b) it had got to the stage where it wasn’t making sense because …
How bloody dare he? You didn’t ask for advice. It’s your blog! People obviously enjoy answering the questions because they keep coming back … pshaw I say!
