That miserably fun beer run

I have this rock collection, and for a while all it was displayed on my window ledge over my kitchen sink. Here’s the thing, that shelf was never getting cleaned, so I randomly grabbed a bunch of the rocks and put them in a container and then put them under the sink. I then spread out the 10 or so rocks that were left so that the ledge would be cleaned when the cleaners came every other Tuesday.

This is one of the rocks that stayed:

I looked at that rock for weeks, never realizing where it came from, I was just hoping that the shelf was actually being cleaned.

And then I came home from work on Tuesday and my rock looked like this:

And of course my first reaction was: THEY CLEANED MY SHELF!!!! MY PLAN WORKED!!!

And my second reaction was: I ran a half marathon that was 13.26 miles (yes the course was .15 miles long) in 40 mph winds and ran 1.8 miles with four mandatory beer stops in the pouring rain. Go me!

Before the Riverwest Beer Run we went back and forth to the car to drop off the free t-shirts, there was this rock in the middle of the street, so on the way back from the run I picked it up, and when I came home I wrote on it with a Sharpie so I’d always remember how miserably fun that Beer Run was.

  1. Just listened to your podcast RE:Green Bay Half–great job. Too bad running in Lambeau was somewhat anti-climatic.

I like your rock–there is a run where I grew up called the Oulu Rock Run where the prizes are painted rocks. (Oulu is known for a painted rock showing the way to Oulu).

    Good Luck!

  3. I used to ask my traveling students (when they would go on vacations with their family over break) to bring me back a magical rock. So I could really relate to your rock shelf.

    Yay that the cleaners cleaned!!!
