The latest book for the BlogHer Book Club is The First Husband by Laura Dave. The book begins with Annie Adams, a travel writer from LA, being dumped by her longtime boyfriend — and he takes the dog (what?!). She soon finds herself drowning her sorrows at the local bar, however the bartender is someone she’s never met before, Griffin. Fast forward three short months and Griffin is proposing marriage and the two are off on a new adventure in Griffin’s hometown of Williamsburg, MA. Sometimes you’ve just got to leap and then look, right? That’s exactly what Annie does! Would you ever elope after knowing someone for three months? And then move across the country with them to begin your new life in their hometown? I can’t say that the present me would, but the 26 year old me might have.
This is a fast-paced, funny, romantic book that I really enjoyed. I love a good summer beach book — and while I haven’t been to the beach, it sure has felt like summer for the last week.
