My running plans for 2014 are coming together. On Monday I registered both my husband and I for the brand new Lake Michigan Trail Half Marathon. This race is on August 31st and I’m looking forward to it a lot. I know that with the whole summer in front of me to train, I could PR at this race if I really tried.
The rest of the year looks like this: Ragnar Chicago in June, Dances With Dirt Half Marathon in July, The North Face Endurance Challenge in September (I swear, I’m doing the half marathon this year), and then Tyranena Beer Run Half Marathon in November.
I’m super excited that my husband is planning on running all of these races as well. It feels great for us both to be involved in running at the same time. In our 18 years together we’ve been in and out of sync with our running: he’s been a runner, then we both were runners, then only I was a runner, and now we are both runners again. He’s so much faster than I am, so we aren’t training together. Instead, we are alternating who gets to use the treadmill, which sometimes comes down to whoever gets on it first, leaving the other person trying to enforce the 30 minute rule that they have the YMCA. Once the weather clears up, I run outside, and he can have the treadmill all to himself.
Personally, I can’t wait for winter to be over so I can get back outside and running on the trails again. Three cheers for TRAILS!!!
