This weekend was jam packed with so much! Where do I begin?

The Detox. It went well actually. Friday night was probably the most difficult. My yoga book said that as the toxins were flushing out of my system I’d feel a lot of aches and pains, and did I ever! Especially in my shoulders. It was awful. But by morning I was fine.

The new movies. We went to see two movies this weekend: Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel, and Avatar. Alvin was cute, it worked, not as good as the first movie but the kid liked it. Avatar was amazing! We all loved it!

The old movies. Through Netflix I watched: 1. The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard: hilarious; 2. Dan In Real Life: totally enjoyable; 3. Back to the Future: Part 3: Zoe wants to know if we’ll have flying cars in five years.

The BSG. Yes, BSG. As in Battlestar Galactica. That stupid TV series that I’ve avoided like the plague every Friday night. My husband kept saying that he thought I’d like it, and then my brother got the entire series on Blu-Ray, and then I had nothing to do for three days while I laid around and detoxed, so I watched season 1. And I loved it! What I want to know is this: WHEN WILL STARBUCK AND APOLLO KISS?? SHHhhhhh! Zip-it!!! Don’t actually tell me though. I’m starting season 2 tonight.

It’s season 2 episode 1, right?

And Boomer? Pg? I totally called that when she gagged after smelling the peanut butter.

I’m trying to wrap my head around this article in yesterday’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. It was in the business section and it was about Eggo waffles. There’s a shortage.

Seriously.

In. The. Business. Section.

And people are all in a tizzy over the shortage of waffles. The lady that was interviewed said she took one of the last two boxes at her store, and it might be an issue for her daughter, she might have to ration the waffles to a half a waffle at a time.

Again: Seriously?

First of all, I’ve got my addictions and my quirks. Does lip balm ring a bell to anyone? Revlon used to make this lip balm that I couldn’t live without and then you know what they did? They discontinued it. But one of my friends found a ton of them at the dollar store, and so I went to the dollar store and I bought all of them. All 52 tubes of Revlon discontinued lip balm.

One dollar each.

If the Eggo waffles were THAT important to her I don’t see why she’d leave one on the shelf. I’d have bought them both. The early bird gets the Eggo!

And when the Eggo’s run out, well here’s an idea that most probably didn’t think of before: try something else for breakfast. There’s endless options. Cereal, banana bread, muffins, Pop Tarts, french toast, bagels, cold leftover pizza…..

I’d never eat cold leftover pizza for breakfast though. Just so we are clear.

Eventually Eggo will make more waffles and the world will continue to spin. I even found the strength to go on after my 52nd lip balm was gone. Thank God that Burt’s Bees came to my rescue.

Saturday was my 5th Annual Day Off, also known as the “day I get up really early and then go shopping in Chicago with my best friend Kelly”.

This is our 5th year that we’ve gone together and we’ve got it down to a science. Reservations for lunch and dinner are made months in advance, the first stop is the American Girl Store, and then we wonder through Water Tower. After lunch we walk up Michigan Avenue towards Nordstrom, which is about four blocks away, so we stop at various stores along the way.

We check all of our bags at the American Girl Store, which always comes in handy. It’s totally free, and it’s very accessible from the street. This year they changed their rules though, and they’ll only take American Girl bags — UNLESS all of your other bags will fit inside your American Girl bag. Which ours did. Woo!

This year I wanted to go into La Perla because I wanted to see what the big deal is with their underwear. I could remember passing it along the way to Nordstrom before, but I couldn’t remember where it was exactly. Kelly said, “maybe we’ll see it when we get to Nordstrom”.

And she was right. It is directly across the street from Nordstrom. Too bad we ran out of time and had to cross La Perla off our list.

What did I buy? Lots of Christmas stuff for the kid, a bottle of extra virgin olive oil for the husband, and yoga clothes for me from my favorite yoga store, Lucy.

I desperately looked for a new purse. I found one contender, but couldn’t decide on a color, so I didn’t buy it. I look for a new purse every year and I’ve never bought one. It’s the buyer’s remorse that usually stops me. Thank God for the Coach Outlet in Pleasant Prairie, come back tomorrow for a great story about the outlet mall.

The last stop before we get on the bus each year is Ghiradelli; we buy cookies and/or brownies for our kids and husbands. We each eat our cookie on the bus though, while we watch the movie, which was Aliens in the Attic this year. We talk the whole way down to Chicago and throughout the entire day, but the bus ride home is for eating our cookies, watching the movie, and/or napping. Usually a combination of the three.

When I got home this year Zoe had made me a huge Welcome Home Mom sign, it was so cute. She really wants to come to Chicago with me one year. I promised that her and I would take the train down and do everything my friend and I do, but the trip to Chicago each year is just for me and my friend. I hate to be selfish, but it is what it is: My Day Off.
