The Dark Knight
The last Batman movie I saw starred Michael Keaton, or possibly George Clooney, I’m not entirely sure. But I think I had mono, and I swore I was dying, and someone had to DRIVE to Blockbuster to rent a movie. Yes, it was a very, very, very long time since I’ve watched a Batman movie. I love the roller coaster ride a Six Flags though, LOVE IT!
Zoe went to my parents for the night, and that means one thing: MOVIES! NON-G-RATED MOVIES!!! And well, in order to see Mamma Mia!, I promised we could see The Dark Knight first. I ordered tickets online, and even though we got to the theater 25 minutes early, we still had to sit in the second row. FROM THE SCREEN. It was 4:50 in the afternoon, and for as much as I love movies, I have this problem where I fall asleep during them. It’s something to do with the dark lights, and the fact that my eyelids get really really REALLY heavy. I crossed my fingers that I wouldn’t fall asleep, just so that I could SAY that I DID NOT FALL ASLEEP.
And I did not fall asleep, but I probably should have seen Batman Begins prior to watching The Dark Knight.
WOW! The movie blew all of my expectations straight out of the bat cave. It was, in my opinion, probably the best movie I’ve seen all year! And, if you recall, I did see every last one of the Oscar Nominated best-picture movies in a marathon fashion one crazy Saturday not too long ago.
Someone needs to check my forehead, do I have a fever? I just declared a caped crusader movie the best I’ve seen all year! Me? I don’t even like Spiderman!
And all the buzz going around about Heath Ledger and his role as the Joker, it’s true. He was phenomenal! He deserves any and all nominations that he receives. Absolutely.
By the way, Christian Bale? Oh he’s a MUCH better Batman than Michael Keaton.
Nim’s Island
We went to see Nim’s Island this afternoon. I LOVED IT!!! It was fantastic! You should really go see it. What are you waiting for?
Feeling Much Better
I’m feeling much better today. I spent the afternoon on the couch yesterday and watched the first disk of the first season of The Riches. Fantastic show. I tried to watch it when it was on tv, but I could never find it.
My nose is dripping something awful, but I still got up and ran 4 miles. We are heading out to meet my mother-in-law and step-father-in-law for lunch, then my nephew is coming over to babysit for Zoe while my husband and I go out on a date. We are going to see The Bank Job. Have you seen it yet? Is it good?

Today I’m going to see all the Best Picture Oscar Nominees during a 12 hour (and 25 minute) all day movie marathon. The first movies is Michael Clayton, beginning at 11 a.m., and the last movie is No Country For Old Men, beginning at 9 p.m.. It’s going to be a loooooooong day! Inbetween is Atonement, Juno, and There Will Be Blood.
How many times do you think I will fall asleep? Dark movie theaters make me very very sleepy.
God bless my husband who is at the movies with me, and my grandmother who is watching Zoe.
Oscar Time (once again)
I love the movies! I am a huge movie fan, but I am an even bigger fan of the movies that are nominated for an Academy Award. Each year I watch as many of those movies that I can from the time they are nominated right up to the awards ceremony, keeping careful track of each and every movie I see by highlighting them on my printable ballot. This year my deadline is this Sunday, February 24th, at 4:49 p.m. – which is approaching fast, by the way.
I admit that trying to see all the movies is somewhat crazy, but I do it each and every year. I’m thankful for Netflix and Blockbuster, and that I have a husband who goes along with me on this ridiculous quest each season. He’s had to sit through a long list of movies that he might not have normally watched as a result.
So far this year we have watched the following Oscar nominated movies: Michael Clayton, Eastern Promises, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Away From Her, Gone Baby Gone, Ratatouille, Surf’s Up, The Golden Compass, The Bourne Ultamatum, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, 3:10 To Yuma, and Enchanted. He’s watched Transformers, but I opted out of that one. (my reviews of these movies and others can be read here)
What left to see? I have Norbit and Once on their way via Netflix, and I have American Gangster and In The Valley of Elah checked out from Blockbuster which I’d like to watch tonight. Since this is crunch time, I’m trying to catch Atonement, Juno, No Country For Old Men, and There Will Be Blood on Saturday at the Mayfair May 18 for their 2nd annual AMC Best Picture Showcase (all 5 Oscar Nominees for only $30). I know I’m still missing some, but that’s just they way it’ll have to be.
Of all the movies so far, my favorites have been Michael Clayton, The Bourne Ultimatum, Gone Baby Gone, and of course, Disney’s Ratatouille. What are your favorites this year? Are any of the readers also on the same quest that I am?
