  • The Friday Update

Date: 2009.05.29 | Category: Daily Life, Hiking in the Park, family, movies, the kid | Response: 4

    1. Last Friday night I pulled a tick out of Maisy’s head. I don’t know how we missed it when we did full body checks after that stupid hike where we got lost.

    2. On Sunday, after our hike in Harrington Beach State Park, Zoe found a huge tick on HER head. It was the size of a coffee bean!! Don’t worry, I successfully pulled it out.

    3. My car is making a weird noise when I put it in reverse, and sometimes in forward too. I’m ignoring it right now by turning up the radio.

    4. I saw four movies in the last week.

    5. I also ate more movie popcorn than I probably should have.

    6. My dog, Maisy stalks me twice a day until I take her and Phoebe on their walks. It’s getting annoying, especially when it rains.

    7. The French Open is being played and I’ve been so busy that I’ve barely been able to watch it! On Sunday I’m parking myself in front of my tv all morning long to make up for it.

    8.  I’m getting braces next week and had to have molds made of my teeth. Guess who got a case of the giggles at a most inopportune time? Me.

    9. My husband has informed me that I can’t come home unless my braces are clear. Guess who owes the orthodontist $250 for the clear kind? Him.

    10. I got Zoe a Happy Meal yesterday, and she was super excited because there was a packet of salt in the box. Next thing I know, she’s pouring the packet into her mouth. It was pepper. Oops.

  • Kirk, out

Date: 2009.05.23 | Category: Daily Life, movies | Response: 5

I spent the afternoon in the movie theater with my husband. First we went to see Star Trek, and then we went to see Angels & Demons.

First of all, I think it’s been established that aside from LOST, I am not a sci-fi fan. Second of all. Star Trek. Seriously, Star Trek. But you know what? It was a good movie. I did drift off at what was probably a crucial point of the movie and I missed the whole (spoiler alert) time travel thingy. But all in all, I really enjoyed the movie.

And then there was Angels & Demons. I loved it. It was a lot better than the DaVinci Code. A lot. I’d be curious to know just how much was filmed on location because I’d like to know if I was seeing Rome and The Vatican as it really exists.

Now back to Star Trek. James T. Kirk is born at the beginning of the movie, and his mother asks his father if they should name JTK after his father who was named Tiberius (did you follow that?). And JTK’s father says, Hell no! Tiberius is a terrible name! Okay, so I paraphrased the Hell no! But the rest is a quote.

    And I agree.

My husband wanted to name a son Tiberius after JTK and my reply to that was exactly the same. Hell no! Tiberius is a terrible name! Thank goodness we had a daughter! But, I must admit that after 13 years the name has grown on me.

  • So far I’ve cried a lot

    Date: 2009.02.21 | Category: movies | Response: 4

I’m three movies into the all day movie quest and so far I’ve cried a lot.

    Milk? Cried.

    The Reader? Cried. A lot.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button? Oh I freaking bawled.

I think my crying is over now, I did not cry the first time I saw Slumdog Millionaire, and I can’t imagine what there is to cry about with Frost/Nixon.
