Zoe’s Christmas Concert was last night. One of the songs was Un flambeau Jeanette, Isabelle and some of the kids had made a flambeau (candlestick) to hold during the song. This is Zoe’s flambeau. She worked very hard on it, and actually this was her SECOND flambeau because she just wasn’t pleased with how the first one turned out.

She was very concerned with making sure her teacher received her flambeau at the concert. Since she’s in violin and the violin kids perform first, she needs to report directly to gym for tuning, therefore I was put in charge of delivering the flambeau. Which I did.

And then it was time for the song.

It was the third song the 3rd graders sang that night, so another teacher came out on stage to hand them their flambeaus. Some other kid received Zoe’s, and she did her best to try to correct the situation on stage. However this other teacher must not have understood what Zoe was saying because she walked off stage without fixing it.

My heart just broke for her. The look on her face said everything, she was crushed. And then the tears started to roll down her cheeks. It was obvious to everyone that she was upset. What else could I do but rush the stage? My plan was to stand at the front of the stage with all of the other parents who were taking pictures and try to soothe her, but just as I reached the stage her teacher appeared in front of the risers.

“Pssssst. Mademoiselle. Zoe doesn’t have her flambeau.”

And that was all it took for her teacher to realize the situation and to give her the correct one. All better.

I’m not sure what other parents thought of what I did, but the dad who was sitting in front of me said “Good job mom!” when I got back to my seat.
