I had to give up Milk Duds
I knew that once I got braces I’d have to give up the Milk Duds, but I never thought I’d have to give up a bunch of other stuff too.
What am I allowed to eat when I need a little something to tide me over? I can’t grab a granola bar anymore — too chewy. This is tough, you see every morning at 10 a.m. my stomach tells my brain that I need a granola bar and it’s a good thing my brain stores them in the top drawer of my desk.
So now I’m eating a ‘healthy’ snack instead, like a banana. But, this makes a gap in my day where I’d normally eat a banana. What do you I eat there instead?
I had to give up sucking candy too. Who knew about that one? Also, no pizza crusts, my favorite part of the pizza!
This straight teeth business is totally cramping my dietary style.

I can imagine your delimma over the milk duds. I just found out that I have diabetes and giving up all the good food is really hard to do, especially when you like sweets the way I do.
I eat some dried fruit — preferably berries high in antioxidants — or apples or apricots or…. Occasionally I add a little (less than a quarter cup) of dried Cheerios. If I can pick at them a little at a time, I’m satisfied longer.

But by the time you have straight teeth, you’ll be slim and trim and lovely (not that you aren’t already, of course)

Screw it. Every time you want something, but can’t have it – eat ice cream!

both of my girls have had braces and bought ate pretty much what they wanted, fresh bread was the worst thing to get out of their braces. they did eat “soft” things for a few days after first getting their braces and after a tightening. maybe you just need some time to get used to them?
If you want a healthy snack comparable to candy, eat medjool dates. They are nature’s candy. They are very sweet and addictive. They have a lot complex carbs so they give you a lot of energy.
I have thought of getting braces but not sure if I would deal well with the pain. I have also thought of Inviso-line (or whatever they call it) but I am not sure if that would work for me. I would so not enjoy not being able to eat the foods that I enjoy….especially if it was a recipe that I wanted to try.
