• The New Hiking Boots

The year was 1997. We had barely been married for six months and were still learning about each other. One thing I had yet to learn about my husband was that he didn’t see any reason to try on both the left and right boot when buying a new pair.

You see, one Saturday my husband announces that he needs new hiking boots and for some reason we decided to go to the outlet mall to buy them. We lived in Shorewood and the outlet mall is in Pleasant Prairie, which is about 45 minutes away (by car), so it was a pretty long haul to get boots.

We found the Timberland store and immediately I went one way and he went another. While I was off in the ladies area of the store, he picked out a new pair of boots, he found me, showed me the box, we paid for them and then drove home.

The next day he went to put on his boots. First he put on the right one. And then he went to put on the left one but discovered that it was actually ANOTHER right boot.

In between my snorts of laughter I’m like: Didn’t you try on both boots?

And he’s all: Why would I try on both of them?
