The polished table

One day I was sitting at our dining room table, polishing my nails. We had also received a lovely wedding invitation to a friend’s wedding, and it was next to the nail polish. I swear to God, I twisted the cap on the polish when I was done with it, however, as you’ll soon read, it must not have been twisted tight enough.

A few days later, I was picking up things from the table, and when I picked up the wedding invite I found that it was stuck to the table. Yes, stuck to the table.

The bottle of nail polish had tipped over, and leaked all over the invite, dried, and thus had glued it to my solid wood, butcher block style dining room table. I tried to pry off the invite, but it only ripped, leaving a piece about 1″ x 2″ adhered to my table .

Thankfully, it was clear polish.

My husband went balistic. Apparently I have a small problem when putting my nail polish away. Hey, my nails were wet! He must not know that you aren’t supposed to touch things with wet nails. Personally, I think if he would have put his friend’s wedding invite somewhere else, this all could have been avoided.

So, the table looked rather odd with the big glob of nail polish, and the wedding invite stuck in the big glob of nail polish. Hubby tried to remove the polish, but everyone advised him that if it removed nail polish, it would remove the finish on the table too.

I eventually did get a new dining room table — total impulse buy.

I think someday, when I’ve got time, I’ll strip the table and refinish it.

Have you ever ruined a piece of furniture? Would you have stripped the table and refinished it before buying a new one?
