I don’t know why, but today was the day I decided to pull out the quilt that I started in April of 2000. Maybe it was because my sister-in-law finally returned the missing part of my sewing machine, or maybe it was because tennis was on and I used spend a lot of time quilting and watching tennis. I haven’t quilted in years. YEARS! The last quilt I made was Zoe’s baby blanket, and she was a newborn when I made it. Before that quilt, I made lots and lots of them.
I remember the day that we bought the fabric for this quilt. It was a very sad day. That morning I went in for a routine prenatal exam and they couldn’t find the baby’s heartbeat. We were devastated, but went through the motions of picking out the fabric for this quilt even though. And then we watched E.T. and cried.
Anyhow, for some reason or another I never finished this quilt. It has been on the brink of being so close to being done for nine years now, and today I decided that enough was enough. It needed to be completed. That, and my husband’s sofa quilt is this close to falling apart. Seriously, it’s so worn that it’s almost just the border of a quilt. You’d think he’s been dragging it behind him for the last 10 years, that’s how tattered it’s become.
So this morning I pulled out my sewing supplies and my almost-done quilt. The borders and binding were all cut, they just needed to be sewed on. I even had the batting. What I did not have was the backing. And my pattern said: calculate the backing upon completion. And let me tell you, it’s been so long that I had no idea how to calculate how many yards of fabric I needed. Thank goodness for the internet! I found a great website that did all the work for me. Hallelujah!
And then Zoe and I went to the quilt store where she told me that she was so bored that she didn’t even think she’d been this bored before in her life.
Oh yes. I’ve been there, done that.
As a kid I lived in fabric stores while my mom looked for fabric, and I agree, they are boring. Unless you can browse the buttons. Then it’s not so bad.
The quilt is all pinned together and ready to sew. I’ll get to it tomorrow night, I swear!

I knowwhat you mean by starting something and then be fore you know it it’s been nine or ten years and still not finished. So I know how it is and I also see you finishing it too.
you been mingled again
