I gave up on a no-shoes rule a long time ago. For some reason it doesn’t go over so well here in the vast midwestern wasteland. It’s something that everyone does in Hawaii, though. At my parents’ house, there is a screened patio area where we leave our shoes. At some of our other relatives’ houses, though, we actually had to leave shoes outside. I never wondered about it as a kid, but now I wonder how it is that no shoes ever got stolen there
