I gave up on a no-shoes rule a long time ago. For some reason it doesn&#039;t go over so well here in the vast midwestern wasteland. It&#039;s something that everyone does in Hawaii, though. At my parents&#039; house, there is a screened patio area where we leave our shoes. At some of our other relatives&#039; houses, though, we actually had to leave shoes outside. I never wondered about it as a kid, but now I wonder how it is that no shoes ever got stolen there :)
