You wiggle this thingy and then press the square and the X
The Playstation 3 game of the day is LittleBigPlanet. Zoe was playing this morning while she was waiting for the bus.

It looked like a version of Super Mario Bros. — a game that I actually know how to play — so I tried it. All I had to do was jump from one ledge over to another ledge. How hard could it be?
But first Zoe had to show me how to use the controller.
YOU WIGGLE THIS THINGY AND THEN PRESS THE SQUARE AND THE X.
What???
I cannot jump over that ledge. I had to replay the level, which meant that I started over and had to make my little SackGirl jump and grab this flying bird thing up to the ledge and then lean over far enough to gain momentum to actually land on the ledge.
MOM. DON’T GET FRUSTRATED YOU’LL GET IT.
I was not getting frustrated. Unless of course waving the controller in front of me with arms outstretched in the direction I needed to swing over while pressing any and all buttons that resembled a square and an X could be taken as frustration.

Although I am generally a geek girl and gadget lover, the one place I completely fall down at fitting into that niche is… video games. I love the technology and creativity behind the current generation of games, but I can’t shoot (or jump, or climb, or… whatever) my way out of a paper bag!
